I declare, every evil conspiracy and strongholds against you and your family, be pulled down and scattered, in Jesus name.
Anywhere your name will be mentioned or wherever your matter will be discussed, it will be to favour you and not to harm you, in Jesus name.
In our today’s episode 528 of studying and understanding the Bible series, we shall be examining Jeremiah Chapter 38 titled:
These Are The People Behind The Evil Plot Against Jeremiah.
What we usually refer to as the Cabal in our dispensation today is similar to what we see here in this chapter.
I don’t know if you are familiar with the following names in the Bible:
Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchiah.
They dont ring bell right?
Yes, that’s how the cabal operate. Most of them are not known to the public, but they subtly control what happens in the seat of power.
They are from the royal family too. They have been the one negatively influencing the king to misbehave and not to listen to every word of prophecy that has proceeded out of the mouth of Jeremiah. The public will then see the king in bad light.
However, casting our mind back to the era of king Josiah, he would never bow to any any intimidation from any cabal. He was bold enough to pull down any anti-God practice.
But in this case, Zedekiah didn’t have the intestinal fortitude to face them. No wonder king Nebuchadnezzar installed him as a vassal king. Unfortunately for him, the powers within were not allowing him to perform that duty.
Having read and heard about the prediction of the fall of Jerusalem, these people got angry because it’s going to affect a lot of things:
Power and influence will be taken away from them.
Businesses will crumble.
Their positions will no longer make sense.
So, in order for them to prevent Jeremiah from further speaking about these prophecies and many more, they ordered that he should be thrown in a dungeon. You will find this in verses 1-6.
They succeeded in throwing him into the muddy dungeon but then something happened…
Someone from Africa rescued him.
His name was Ebed-melech, an Ethiopian Eunuch. He was also part of the palace officials. So, God had to use him for Jeremiah.
He went to the king, got the king’s permission to get Jeremiah out of the deadly dungeon. You will find this in verses 7-13.
Reading verses 14-23, we will find out how the king consulted Jeremiah privately if anything has changed about his prophecies.
Well, nothing had changed except the fact that Jeremiah advised the king on what to do when the prophecies become fulfilled.
He advised the king to surrender to the Babylonian army so that his life and that of his people can be spared and they won’t have to die of war, hunger and diseases.
After the conversation, the king promised Jeremiah he would not kill him but must not disclose their conversation with the cabal.
After his secret meeting with the king, he was interrogated by the cabal about what transpired between him and the king, Jeremiah had to give an evasive answer to avoid putting himself and the king into trouble. You will find all these in verses 24-28.
Lessons to learn:
- Men of God are truly facing a lot of challenges, especially from some unseen powers doing everything possible to stop the Word of God from spreading. So, let’s always pray for them. That’s why Apostle Paul encourages us in 2Cor 10:4-6 to pray and pull down those evil strongholds.
- Another thing to bear in mind is that a lot of men of God who started well are now compromising their faith either because of love of money or fear of the “cabal.” Truly, many of them have been bought. We must he careful.
If you have further lessons you gave learnt from the message, kindly drop it in the comment section.
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
Let us pray:
- I declare, every evil conspiracy and strongholds against you and your family, be pulled down and scattered, in Jesus name.
- Anywhere your name will be mentioned or wherever your matter will be discussed, it will be to favour you and not to harm you, in Jesus name.
