Greetings to you all greatly beloved of God and welcome to another episode of our daily study of the Scriptures. We bless the name of the Lord God for the gift of life and for His benefits on us each new day. Praise be to God!
In our today’s episode 585, we shall be examining chapter 2 of the Book of Hosea titled:
The Unfailing Love Of God To An Unfaithful People; A Must Read
The first chapter of the book of Hosea had already given us an overview of what the entire book looks like. From human’s judgemental perspective, it is so unusual to see a Prophet married to a prostitute. However, in God’s perspective, it’s a strong message to His people telling them how much He loved and loves them even in their sinful state but does not want them to remain in that state. Hence, the call for repentance, which is the overall theme of chapter 2 anchored upon the pedestal of the Love of God.
Verses 1-13 provides us with an account of Hosea’s plea to Gomer through his children, asking the children to call their mother to order – to stop her adultery and prostitution. Failure to do this comes with grave consequences as listed in those verses.
Then from verse 14, we can see the promise of restoration given to Gomer provided she hearkens to the warnings and receives the provisions for forgiveness offered by Hosea following God’s instruction to take her back. Let’s read:
So I am going to take her into the desert again; there I will win her back with words of love. 15 I will give back to her the vineyards she had and make Trouble Valley a door of hope. She will respond to me there as she did when she was young, when she came from Egypt. 16 Then once again she will call me her husband—she will no longer call me her Baal. 17 I will never let her speak the name of Baal again. Hosea 2:14-17
Again, this was a symbolic statement directed to the Jews on the need for them to forsake their evil ways, repent and embrace the Love of God.
Their mother (Gomer) mentioned in verse 2 refers to the nation of Israel generally and the children represent the individual person in the nation.
Prophet Isaiah preached in the same manner in Isaiah 50:1. Please read it.
In the same manner that Gomer’s three children were named based on the type of punishment to befall her (Israel), is also the same manner those names were changed in order to bring restoration and blessings. Let’s quickly look at them one after the other:
In verse 22, he said they shall answer Jezreel (the same name used negatively in verses 3-4 of chapter 1) is here again used for restoration, which means to scatter, but this time, it means a glorious redemption coming upon Israel.
Scattering turned out to be a powerful transformation. That is what happens to every sinner who receives the forgiveness of sin offered by Christ through His blood.
The name of the second child is Lo-Ruhamah (1:6) which means “without mercy.”
However, according to verse 23, God’s mercy would be showered on them and they would be restored completely.
Then in Hosea 1:9, the third child was named Lo-Ammi, which means “not my people”. But this time, they would be called “you are my people” and they would reply… “you are my God.”
In the same way, God has made provision for the forgiveness of sins and restoration of mankind to Himself through Christ. The broken link has been mended. The gap has been filled. Jesus has done His own part and all we need is spread this message of hope and let the whole world know what’s in store for them.
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
Let’s pray:
In any way someone reading this might have been called “nobody,” always remember that, that is not God’s opinion about you. God’s opinion about you is that you are somebody of great value. You were wonderfully created, and you are a solution to your generation. You are an excellent and express representative of God on earth. Begin to operate in this consciousness in Jesus name.
Every attempt of the evil ones to make you feel less of who you are in Christ, their attempts and strategies are frustrated and rendered useless. You are victorious over every barrier and obstacles, in Jesus name.
I declare you will make positive impacts in your generation and that avenue or platforms you need to function and make positive impacts are created for you already, in Jesus name.
Where you might have been relegated before now, you will become relevant and your voice will be heard, in Jesus name.
Bible Readings For Today: Reflection time on all the chapters you have been reading so far from the past six days and covering of missed chapters.
