STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 468
Isaiah Chapter 63
Isaiah 63:1-2
[1]Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
[2]Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?
Note from the above verse that Prophet Isaiah was simply using Edom and Bozrah as metaphors for the judgement of God upon those who reject God and the Message of Salvation brought by the Messiah.
A quick check on the transliteration of the word Edom means “Red” which signifies blood.
Bozrah is just a city in Edom and their common practice there was to tread grapes in order to produce wine (red in colour). Therefore, the whole place were always painted red during the time of harvest and production.
The “Who” mentioned above is without doubt the Messiah, because He is the only One that speaks in righteousness and is also mighty to save.
Also note that the Messiah came for two major assignments:
👉To save – happening already including now.
👉To judge – happening in the future. That’s why He didn’t include it in His reading of the Scripture as we discovered in Luke 4:18-20 when He was quoting Isaiah 61. He deliberately left out the vengeance (judgement) part.
Let’s continue…
Isaiah 63:3-4
[3]I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
[4]For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
Note that there is no other person apart from the Messiah who has the wherewithal to carry out the great sacrifice that brings eternal benefits and blessings to as many as possible that receive Him and judgement to those who reject Salvation. He did all that alone.
This is why Christ came to declare absolute judgement over the devil and the sin he brought upon man and also declares full emancipation and victory for everyone that believes and receives the Gospel genuinely.
To be continued…Praise God.
