Good morning Believers in the finished work of Christ.
We give glory to God for the gift of another new day, we thank God for the privilege of life and for His unending mercy and grace upon us always. Praise God!
Isaiah Chapter 43…
Still on verse 1 of Isaiah 43.
Isaiah 43:1
[1]But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Yesterday we looked into how Jacob was redeemed into becoming Israel serving as a figurative representation of how God had redeemed every believer from the shackles of sin nature and translated us into the Kingdom of Christ to be in union with God.
Today, we want to look into the phrase “fear not.”
Which according to Hebrew transliteration means:
Don’t be afraid,
Don’t be dreadful,
Don’t feel terrible about something,
Don’t be frightened.
Although fear can also be used or applied in a positive way which in that case means to show reverence for someone. E.g to fear God.
But that’s not the context here. Isaiah was actually advising against fear in the negative way.
Why would he say fear not?
The answer is in Isaiah 43:2
[2]When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Here, prophet Isaiah uses water, river and fire as metaphors for trials and challenges.
The truth is that trials, temptations and challenges are inevitable for every human being on earth, whether you are a believer or not. So far you are living on planet earth, one way or the other, everybody faces challenges.
Again, let’s pay attention to how Isaiah uses his vocabularies here…
He didn’t say if you pass through…which is conditional…i.e it may or may not happen.
However, he says…”when you pass through…”
This means that every human being passes through hard times of trials and challenges. But our reaction during those periods is what matters.
When we are faced with trials for the purpose of the Gospel or when we are faced with challenges of life as we navigate through our life journey, as believers, we must first of all defeat fear and embrace faith.
Fear is a tool in the hand of the devil to attack people. Interestingly enough, some people came up with an acronym for fear to mean:
F- False
E – Evidence/Expression
A – Appearing
R – Real
It will appear so real but in the end it will just be like a balloon if only you learn how to prick it with your niddle of faith. That’s when it’s deflated.
God knows how to take care of you. He will never allow you to be defeated in times of trials and challenges. You will only become stronger and know better.
Let me close with this words of encouragement from Jesus Christ Himself.
Matthew 10:28-31
[28]And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
[29]Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
[30]But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
[31]Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
