STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 408
Isaiah Chapter 39
Isaiah 39:1-2 TPT
Shortly after Hezekiah was healed of his illness, the king of Babylon, Merodach-Baladan, son of Baladan, heard that King Hezekiah had been deathly ill and had recovered. So he sent envoys carrying letters and a lavish gift.
[2] Delighted by the king’s gesture, and having a desire to impress them, Hezekiah welcomed the envoys from Babylon and opened the doors of the king’s storehouses of treasures and showed them to the envoys. He let them see all of his gold, silver, spices, and costly fragrant oils, as well as his entire armory. All of the king’s royal treasures, all that was in the king’s palace, and all the wealth of his whole kingdom was shown to them.
This Chapter marks the beginning of another avoidable travails of King Hezekiah.
Remember he was recently healed of his malady miraculously and the King of Babylon heard about it and therefore paid courtesy visit.
This was mere political. It’s also happening nowadays. One country trying to leverage on one opportunity to become a friend to another country.
From Bible history, the King of Babylon are not in good term with the Assyrians. In fact, Assyrian Kingdom is seeing Babylonian Kingdom as terrorists-infested Kingdom. So, they were not in good terms at all.
Therefore, the King of Babylon was trying to use the opportunity of Hezekiah’s recovery to form an alliance with the Kingdom of Judah in order to form a strong force against the Assyrians.
Unfortunately, King Hezekiah (who was a man of prayer), did not consult the Lord before yielding to this offer. He ignorantly exposed the Kingdom of Judah to an outsider. Read more details here…2 Chronicles 32:27-29
What a terrible mistake he made…
This is a great lesson for everyone of us…
When some people are in problem, or facing challenges, they will know how to pray and run after men of God. Church buildings become their second home.
However, let’s wait until God has answered their prayers, they then become an enemy of God. They will no longer engage in prayers anymore, neither will they study the Word of God to hear from Him.
They will no longer consult the Lord anymore for directions.
Upon seeing these lapses, the enemy starts to look for an avenue to strike again.
I pray this will never be our portion in Jesus name.
The Israelites are very fond of making this mistake and that’s why you will see Moses always warned them about the danger of forgetting about God after they have been blessed.
Let’s read a few of them…
Deuteronomy 4:23
[23]Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.
And also this warning from Moses to the Israelites…
Deuteronomy 8:12-14,17-19
[12]Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;
[13]And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;
[14]Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
[17]And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
[18]But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
[19]And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
Brethren, in what ways have you been behaving like the Israelites?
In what ways have you been acting like King Hezekiah today?
Those matters you will quickly table before God in the past, are now being handled using your own wisdom.
I am not saying we should start running after mediums or some spiritualist looking for “what does God has for me?”
There is danger in it.
Instead, we must allow God to continue to guide us as we pray to him and study His Word. God speaks always through His Word, which is through His Son Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 1:1-2
[1]God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
[2]Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
So, focus on Christ…
To be continued…Praise God.
Let’s declare this:
I refuse to be distracted by the devil. I will keep on being persistent in praying and studying the Word of God and I will keep on receiving directions from Him concerning my life’s journeys. It is well with my soul. Amen
