STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 404
Isaiah Chapter 36
This Chapter is another switch made by Prophet Isaiah to provide some details of the reign of King Hezekiah.
This Chapter provides us with information regarding the meeting that Rabshakeh, a representative of King of Assyria, had with the representatives of King Hezekiah during the invasion of Jerusalem in Judah.
Let’s read some verses…
Isaiah 36:1-5 TPT
In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and conquered them.
[2] After defeating Lachish, Sennacherib sent his chief commander with his massive army from there to King Hezekiah in Jerusalem. He took up a position on the road to the Washerman’s Field, at the end of the aqueduct where it empties into the upper pool.
[3] And coming out to meet him were three officials of the king: Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, the palace administrator; Shebna, the scribe; and Joah, son of Asaph, the secretary.
[4] Sennacherib’s commander said to them, “Tell Hezekiah, this is what the exalted king, the king of Assyria, says: ‘What makes you so confident?
[5] You think you have a strategy and defensive might, but mere words are no match for my army! In whom are you trusting for help that you rebel against me?
Hmm…what a threat…
More details of what transpired between the Kingdom of Hezekiah (King of Judah) and that of Sennacherub (King of Assyria) can be found in 2 Kings 18:13-27 and 2 Chronicles 32:1-19.
What a demoralising verbal assault against Hezekiah and the people of Judah.
Often times, we have received various assaults from people questioning our faith or what we believe in.
Oftentimes too, the devil and his cohorts may have attempted to haul their catapults of attack in various forms against us. Like he is doing against the whole world using Covid-19 at the moment.
In any of these situations, we must not give in to fear. We have won the battle already with God’s help.
Tomorrow by God’s grace, we are going to look into how King Hezekiah reacted to Sennacherub’s threat and what the outcome was.
But before then, let’s see Paul’s advice to New Covenant believers when faced with challenges that seem to question our faith.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9
[8]We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
[9]Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.
As a believer, you may be experiencing every kind of pressure from every side, but be sure of this that you cannot be crushed.
Even though at times, you may not know what to do, but quitting is not an option. You can’t afford to quit.
People may even persecute you for the purpose of the Gospel – for preaching the Truth, but always remember God has not forsaken you and He will never forsake you. He will continue to keep you going to convey His Word using every means possible.
Even if you are knocked down by sickness or any calamity, be sure of this that there won’t be a knock out. God won’t allow the enemies to touch your life.
Remember, the devil knocked Job down because of fear, but God’s Love for him prevented the devil from knocking him out.
The devil knocked Hezekiah down, but couldn’t knock him out too.
The devil knocked Apostle Paul down, but couldn’t knock him out. If he had knocked him out, we won’t be reading his Epistles right now.
In your own case too, I want you to believe that the devil cannot knock you out. Don’t give in to fear, but hold on to God’s Word and keep on praying trusting God for the best.
God is with you and everything will end in praise.
To be continued…
Our Prayers for everyone reading this message right now and to as many people as possible facing one challenge or the other:
๐I decree by the authority in the name of Jesus, you will not be knocked out, in Jesus name.
๐That challenge that the devil is trying to use to knock you out of the way, God will instead use it to promote you, in Jesus name.
๐Every good thing you have lost, every opportunity you have missed, be restored unto you, in Jesus name.
