The Book of Isaiah Chapter 32
Isaiah 32:1-3
[1]Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
[2]And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
[3]And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.
In this chapter, Prophet Isaiah foresaw a great prosperity and peaceful regime that would happen during the reign of King Hezekiah and then in a more higher sense of it was used as a type and shadow of the type of reign that would be brought by Christ (Messiah). Details are in verses 1-8.
Let’s remember from the beginning of our study that Isaiah’s prophetic ministry cut across four regimes and each regime was given series of words of prophecy touching political, economic and spiritual. So, King Hezekiah was one of those Kings.
Isaiah 1:1
[1]The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
This is why even many Bible scholars have agreed after proper study of Isaiah’s prophecies and timeline that Chapter 32 was actually referring to Hezekiah’s regime literally.
2 Kings 18:3,5
[3]And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.
[5]He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
We must not forget that Judah was faced with Assyrian invasion and God promised them rescue, despite their stubbornness and alliance with Egypt, yet God rescued them from the Assyrian Armies.
God didn’t stop there, He also went further and blessed them with a righteous King – King Hezekiah. Read 2King Chapter 18.
To add to that God also blessed the King with faithful, loyal and righteous Princes to rule with him in judgement and supporting his Kingdom with prayers even in the face of threats from the Assyrian Armies. Some of them were scribes, while some were priests. Note that to be called a Prince does not necessarily mean you were a biological son of that King. Anyone holding important position and serving under a King were usually called Princes in those days. Please read 2 Kings 19:2
This picture he then used to explain Christ’s peaceful reign having many righteous Princes ruling with judgement.
Prophet Jeremiah provides us with a very clear picture:
Jeremiah 23:5-6
[5]Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
[6]In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Tomorrow by God’s grace we will continue by exploring more about this Kingdom of Righteousness, who the King is and those who are qualified to become Princes that would rule in judgement with Him.
To be continued…Praise God.
