STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 389
The Book of Isaiah Chapter 29
The beginning of this Chapter is simply a continuation of Isaiah’s prophecy about the calamities that would befall those who refused God’s offer of “REST” in Chapter 28.
Verses 1 to 4 figuratively explain the details of the consequences of their actions, because of their arrogance and rebellion, without showing any remorse.
Remember in verse 11 of the previous chapter 28, they refused to listen to God’s message of warning coming from Isaiah’s mouth.
As a result of this rejection, they paved way for foreigners to invade their land, attacked them and reduced them to nothing.
Although Isaiah made it look as if it was God that destroyed them for being disobedient. No, it wasn’t God. Rather, it was the outcome of their choice that led them into destruction.
Every act of disobedience and judgement followed the pattern of Adam and Eve in Eden. Was it God that killed them for eating the forbidden fruit? No. It was their rejection of Life that brought spiritual death upon them.
Remember that Prophets of Old Testament books were not privileged to acquire clearly revealed knowledge of God. This is why their words were filled with parables, figures, types and shadows.
They too were trying to search out in order to know what exactly was God’s plan in saving His people.
Apostle Peter shed more light on this truth:
1Peter 1:9-10 It was concerning this Salvation the Prophets made careful search and investigation, and they prophesied about this gift which God would give you.
11. They tried to find out when the time would be and how it would come (Or they tried to find out who the person would be and how he would come).
This is why for you to draw a conclusion on the exact messages preached in the Old Testament books, you need to consult the Epistles for revelation knowledge.
If the Israelited had listened to Isaiah and received that REST offered, if they did not sign an agreement with the devil, they would have escaped those calamities and enjoyed God’s Rest.
Despite that God still rescued them from those who attacked them, as explained in verses 5-8
You can see how merciful God had been even from the beginning of time. His nature has been to love and save His people.
He is also currently saving the world using various frontline workers to rescue His people from the damage caused by the devil.
To be continued…Praise God.
