Good day People of God in Christ Jesus. You are all welcome to another new day. Glory be to God, our Father, for the gift of life.
Here is Part 492 of our series of studying and understanding the Bible.
Today, we shall be looking at the second vision revealed to Prophet Jeremiah which is:
A Boiling Pot From The North
Jer. 1:13 (AMP) The word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, tilting away from the north [its mouth about to pour out on the south, on Judea].”
What does this signify? Let’s check out the answer in the next verse…
Jer. 1:14 (AMP) Then the Lord said to me, “Out of the north the evil [which the prophets foretold as the result of national sin] will reveal itself and spill out on all the people of the land.
From our past studies of the book of Isaiah, we will notice that Prophet Isaiah had in his own prophecies too warned the people of Judah to repent from their sins by changing the way they think and return to God, otherwise, there would be grave consequences for their actions. They refused to listen and they faced the consequences.
Here comes Jeremiah again, repeating what Isaiah has said in the past. One interesting thing about God is that in every generation, He will always appoint Prophets to warn His children of any danger before they happen. It’s now left for those who have ears to hear what God is saying to His people.
The boiling pot tilting from the north to the south is a symbol of evils that would befall the people of Judah as a result of their national sin.
Essentially, it means that the real threat to the life of people of Judah was not the strength of their enemies. Rather, the real threats to their lives were their own sins and disobedience to God and their lack of trust in Him.
This aligns with what Apostle James writes about in his Epistle…
James 1:13-15 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God” [for temptation does not originate from God, but from our own flaws]; for God cannot be tempted by [what is] evil, and He Himself tempts no one.
14But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion).
15Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to death.
What was Judah’s sin that brought upon them punishment? They abandoned God, they were busy offering sacrifices to other gods, and they crafted idols with their own hands and were worshiping them. Simply put, they were engaging in the sin of idolatry. So, God did not cause the calamity that was about to befall them at all. It was caused by their stubbornness and rejection of God.
That is why God instructed Jeremiah to go and warn them ahead of time and in doing so, he must not be afraid delivering God’s message. Remember, God has fortified him in the beginning.
Having satisfied that Jeremiah understood the two visions, God decided to launch him and also reassured him again about the assignment…
Jer. 1:17-19 (AMP)
17But you [Jeremiah], gird up your loins [in preparation]! Get up and tell them all which I command you. Do not be distraught and break down at the sight of their [hostile] faces, or I will bewilder you before them and allow you to be overcome.
18Now behold, I have made you today like a fortified city and like an iron pillar and like bronze walls against the whole land—against the [successive] kings of Judah, against its leaders, against its priests, and against the people of the land [giving you divine strength which no hostile power can overcome].
19They will fight against you, but they will not [ultimately] prevail over you, for I am with you [always] to protect you and deliver you,” says the Lord.
This is where we shall be ending Chapter 1 of the book of Jeremiah. We will continue with Chapter 2 in my next post. Stay tuned…
Let us pray:
- I declare you are fortified and protected against any form of evil attack, in Jesus name.
- I declare every evil calling of your name shall end in futility, in Jesus name.
- All your prayer sacrifices have already attracted speedy answers from God. Receive their physical manifestations right now.
- The Lord God is moving into your direction all the resources you need to fulfil that assignment. Fear is not your portion. You shall not be disappointed. Everything will end in praise, in Jesus name.
