Greetings to you all greatly beloved of God and welcome to another episode of our daily study of the Scriptures. We bless the name of the Lord God for the gift of life and for His benefits on us each new day. Praise be to God!
In our today’s episode 602, we shall be examining the book of Amos Chapter 2 titled:
Refuse To Give The Devil A Chance; Learn From These Nations
Before we proceed to the national judgement pronounced upon the people of Judah and Israel, let’s quickly look at Moab who was also fingered to have committed evil as well.
Amos 2:1 provides a clue about what they did.
They sinned again and again, and they even used a King’s bone for their idolatry rituals by burning it into ashes. In short, these people were idolaters with no regard for God and they desecrated the corpse of a past hero king in Edom. Please read Zephaniah 2:8; Ezekiel 25:8 and Isaiah 15 for some more details.
Let’s not forget the origin of the Moabites – Moab was the son given birth to when Lot’s older daughter made him drunk and slept with him for the fear that she was not going to have anyone to marry her and both sisters did not want their family line to perish. So, the older sister produced the Moabites, while the younger sister produced the Ammonites. Genesis 19:30-37.
Well, what’s important is for us to understand Amos’ motive behind pronouncing judgement upon these nations and it’s to awaken them to the truth that it’s high time they started learning how to take responsibility for their actions and be accountable for their sins. From that moment, they will begin to see the need for a Saviour, and this will eventually lead them to their Salvation.
In verse 4, the people of Judah received their own share of the judgement too and this is what they did:
“They have despised my teachings and have not kept my commands. They have been led astray by the same false gods that their ancestors served.”
And finally, in verse 6, Prophet Amos also pointed his torchlight of judgement against the northern kingdom for oppressing the poor and perverting justice. They threatened genuine Prophets for speaking the truth of God’s Word (verse 12). They indulged in all manner of immorality.
These were the reasons all the calamities they experienced happened to them. They simply opened the door for the enemies to attack them.
Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:27 advises the Ephesians not to give the devil a chance. The same message is coming to us now. Beginning from our thought life before it materializes into actions, we must not allow the devil to take advantage of us.
Grace be with you all…
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
Let’s pray as we declare the following together:
I take my rightful position in Christ and I refuse to give the devil a chance in my life and family, in Jesus name.
