Good day Believers in Christ Jesus. You are all welcome to another new day. Glory to God for the gift of life.
Always remember this and register it at the back of your mind that your old identity has been co-crucified with Messiah and that old identity no longer lives; for the nails of His cross crucified you with Him and you now have a new life.
And now the essence of this new life is no longer yours, for the Anointed One lives His life through you—you and Christ are both one now. Your new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves you so much that He gave Himself for you and dispenses His life into yours. Continue to live in this new reality, in Jesus name.
Galatians 2:20 TPT
In our today’s episode 514 of studying and understanding the Bible, we shall be examining Jeremiah Chapter 24 titled:
Practical Secret Lessons From Two Baskets Of Figs That Will Make You Quiver
Remember from our past studies how Prophet Jeremiah advised the people of Judah that the only way they could escape death and destruction was for them to surrender to the Babylonians during their invasion. You will find this in Jeremiah 21:8-9.
Sadly, many of them disobeyed and escaped to Egypt, while some of them remained in Jerusalem. They thought they were better off than those taken into captivity. Read 2Kings 24:8-15 and Jeremiah 24:8
During this invasion around 598 BC, Jehoiachin, who took over monarchical power from Jehoiakim became king, but he was very terrible and sinned against God just like his father. But he eventually listened to Jeremiah’s words and he and his subordinates surrendered to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. They were then taken into captivity after spending just 3 months on the throne. Read 2Kings 24.
Babylonian king then replaced him with his uncle called Mattaniah, whose name was changed to Zedekiah. Read 2Kings 24:8-17
In 2Kings 25, king Zedekiah rebelled against Babylonian king and he lost his family in the process with his eyes plucked out.
Therefore, coming to Jeremiah 24, Prophet Jeremiah described those who obeyed and surrendered to the Babylonians as the baskets filled with good figs. While those who disobeyed and ran to Egypt or remained in Jerusalem with Zedekiah, were either killed by famine or diseases and they were likened to the basket filled with bad figs. Please read Jeremiah 24:1-8
Lessons learnt:
Anyone who keeps disobeying God and committing sin is a slave of sin and this gives the devil power or entry permit to afflict such person. Let’s read what Jesus says here:
34“I speak eternal truth,” Jesus said. “When you sin you are not free. You’ve become a slave in bondage to your sin.
John 8:34 TPT
However, if you obey and receive the gift of Salvation and you keep gazing at the Word of truth, you are set free from the bondage of sin and the devil cannot torment you.
Lets see what Apostle Paul has to say about this:
1 Let me be clear, the Anointed One has set us free—not partially, but completely and wonderfully free! We must always cherish this truth and stubbornly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past.
Galatians 5:1 TPT
Now, the ball is in your court. Do you want to be in union with Christ so you can set free completely and be figuratively called a basket of good fig? Or You want to remain in the bondage of sin and be tormented by the devil and be figuratively called a basket of bad figs?
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
Let us pray:
- I declare by the authority in the name of Jesus, as a believer in the finished work of Christ, continue to live in the joyous freedom from the power of sin, in Jesus name.
- All the dividends of redemption have been credited to you, in Jesus name.
- I declare you are rooted and brought deeper into the experience of true holiness that ends with eternal life in Christ, in Jesus name.
