STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 470
Isaiah Chapter 63 concluded…
Yesterday, we were able to do justice to the real meaning of vengeance and who it applies to.
The interpretation of vengeance according to Isaiah’s context refers to God’s judgement against the devil, his cohorts and those who rejected God’s offer of Salvation and this vengeance we are talking about is happening in the future when Christ shall return.
Today, we want to proceed further by looking into the rest of Chapter 63.
Isaiah 63:7-10 TPT
I will tell again of the faithful, gracious acts of Yahweh and praise him for everything he has done for us- the wonderful goodness, the riches of his mercy, which he has shown to the house of Israel, and the abundance of his endless love.
We will notice that having prophesied about vengeance, Isaiah switches again to talk about God’s mercy to His people. Because Isaiah’s prophecies are always double-edged in nature – Salvation and judgement.
[8] For he said, “Truly, they are my loyal children who will not act deceitfully.” He became their Savior.
[9] When they suffered, he suffered with them. The Angel of His Presence saved them. Out of his enduring love and compassion he redeemed them. He lifted them up, carried them in his arms, and cared for them all the days of old.
The truth is, despite the fact that the Israelites were disobedient to God and they suffered in their afflictions, God was touched. He felt the pain with them. God didn’t like it when they were captured and taken into various captivities. But then, they chose that option for themselves through rebellion and disobedience.
The same way He felt too when we were all dead in sin and came to our rescue in Christ.
No wonder the writer of Hebrew says in Heb 4:15
[15]For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Yes, that’s the truth. He became flesh so that He could feel and exhibit all the attributes of being human but excluding sinning.
That was how God identified Himself with man – to be like man in order to save man.
Otherwise, we will still see some people who will query God and say: it was because Jesus was not human and that was why it was possible for Him to navigate the earth realm without sinning. Sadly, that’s assertion is not true.
On the contrary, the Bible says He was completely human (John 1:14). He felt hungry (Mat 4:2), he was afflicted (Isa 53:4), he was tempted but He didn’t sin (Heb 4:14-15). Why, because He was filled with the Holy Spirit.
This therefore means that the moment we become born again, we too have all the attributes of Jesus. It means that what cannot overcome Jesus, cannot overcome us. We too have victory over the devil and circumstances of life.
Unfortunately, not everybody has grabbed this truth and that’s why Isaiah says…
[10] But they rebelled against him and grieved his Holy Spirit. Only then did he turn against them. He became their enemy and fought against them.
The truth is what you do not believe in cannot work for you.
Fortunately for some of these people, they eventually found where and how they got it wrong and cried to God in prayer. You will find this in the remaining verses of Chapter 63.
When a sinner hears the Gospel of Salvation, believes and receives it, of course he will be forgiven and restored back to God.
That’s the picture Isaiah has been trying to paint for the people to see in his writings.
Are you Christ like?
To be continued…Praise God.
