Good day People of God in Christ Jesus. You are all welcome to another new day. Glory to God for the gift of life. Happy New Month to you all.
This month is a season of another milestone of greater record-breaking achievements and new opportunities for you, in Jesus name.
Even in the midst of any unfavourable circumstances or economic instability, you will survive it, prosper and be in good health all the days of your life, in Jesus name. Remember, with God, nothing shall be impossible.
Right there in the prison, Jeremiah was investing in real estate. I declare, whatever the enemy may want to program against you as evil, God will turn it around into blessing for you, in Jesus name.
In our today’s episode 522 of studying and understanding the Bible, we shall be examining Jeremiah Chapter 32 titled:
Jeremiah Buys New Land, What Does He Need It For?
Let’s remember that the book of Jeremiah was not in chronological order. So, this chapter gives an account of what happened before the final invasion of Judah by the Babylonians.
The king on the throne at that time was Zedekiah.
During this time also, Prophet Jeremiah had been arrested by Zedekiah for prophesying about the Babylonian captivity as a consequence of their sinful habit.
Instead of collaborating with Jeremiah so they could pray and possibly avert the impending evils, he decided to get him arrested and locked him up in the royal courtyard prison.
It was in this situation that God revealed to Jeremiah that his uncle would be coming to offer him the opportunity to buy a piece of land and that he must not reject the offer because God wanted to use it to speak to the people.
Looking at the circumstances surrounding the land which was located at Anathoth, few miles away from Jerusalem, you will agree that it was a worthless investment, humanly speaking, because:
Everywhere has been surrounded by the enemies.
There’s hunger in the land and Jeremiah’s uncle needed money to survive.
Land is worthless because it cannot be accessed without getting killed by the Babylonian soldiers.
But then, God told him to go ahead with the transaction. Because that transaction was not about immediate effect, it’s about a long term deliverance and total restoration.
Not long after that the man came. Long story short, the deed was sealed and all necessary papers signed in the presence of witnesses including his uncle’s son.
Because God spoke to him and what God said happened immediately, he didn’t hesitate and neither did he consider how unwise that decision appeared to be.
Since God was involved, everything would be fine.
That’s one of the ways to know when God is speaking to you on any matter. Yes, there will always be confirmation.
So, Jeremiah bought the land from his uncle (Hanamel), because he was so sure it was God leading him.
But why would God ask Jeremiah to buy a piece of land that has been invaded already by the enemy, a land where very soon people all over would be carried off to Babylon?
This will bring us to the lesson learnt.
In a simple and understandable form, God was simply confirming His promise to the people of Judah that even though they may be carried off to Babylon because of their disobedience and evil actions, yet He would forgive their sins and remember it no more and bring them back to their own land (Jerusalem).
And in Jerusalem, lands will be bought, houses will be constructed and people will settle down in a peaceable habitation again and the enemies won’t be able to torment them anymore. Read verses 13 to 15
That’s why Jeremiah instructed his secretary (Baruch) to preserve the land documents in an earthen vessel for future reference.
This was their custom in those days in preserving important documents.
That’s why archaeologists found so many scrolls in earthen vessels during their search and digging activities, which revealed many Biblical histories.
The rest of the chapter deals with Jeremiah’s prayers which touched areas such as expressing the greatness of God and His loving kindness to mankind and then he also prayed for understanding, which is very key if you must know God.
Then Verses 26-35 is about God’s judgement (which is actually the consequences of man’s actions) and then the promise of restoration for the people of Judah.
So, in response to Jeremiah’s prayers, God told him He is God of all flesh and there is nothing too difficult for Him to do.
The angel said the same thing to Mary as well in Luke 1:37
We should always hold on to that truth that with God, nothing shall be impossible.
He has promised restoration. He has promised everlasting covenant in Christ for us and He has fulfilled this for us in Christ Jesus. Meaning that every believer is a beneficiary of that everlasting covenant. Praise God!
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
