Beloved of God in Christ Jesus, another episode of our daily study of the Scriptures is here. We thank God for His grace each new day as we present you with the rightly divided Word of God for your edification. It is our belief and prayer that you are blessed and edified as you read and study along with us. Happy Sunday to you all.
In our today’s episode 569, we shall be looking into the remaining 9 Chapters in the book of Ezekiel:
It’s A New Dawn; Starting Over Again After The Devastating Ruin
This chapter contains a New Year vision that Prophet Ezekiel saw twenty-five years after Israel was taken to captivity and fourteen years after Jerusalem was captured.
This vision continues till the very end of the book of Ezekiel and that is why we will be looking into them altogether, because they all explain the same theme – starting all over again from scratch after the ruin and that’s why the vision began with a man holding some measuring tools – a 3-meter measuring rod and a linen tape.
It’s interesting to note that even before the people of Israel became aware of the new thing that was going to happen to them, God had already revealed it to His Prophet.
No wonder the Bible says in Amos 3:7 that God never does anything without revealing his plan to His servants, the prophets.
Did you know that under new testament dispensation, every believer has become a prophet for God?
Yes, that is the truth because in Hebrews 1:1-2 the Bible explains that in the past, God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the Prophets, but in these last days, He has spoken to us through His son.
Unfortunately, not everybody has realized this truth yet.
During the time Ezekiel saw this vision of a group of buildings that looked like a city, Jerusalem was already lying in ruins, but he saw a very beautiful future for his people.
After the ruins, they lost everything, including the architectural designs of the old temple of Solomon.
This was the reason Ezekiel was given all the measurements again from scratch.
Remember, all these Ezekiel saw in a vision and not waking life.
It takes a man filled with extra ordinary power to be able to remember all the details of the measurement.
In Verse 4, he was instructed to listen carefully and pay close attention to everything he was being shown and told. That was why he was brought there to see the vision of how the future temple would look like.
And below were the various measurements taken for the new construction works.
The east gate (40:5-16), the outer courtyard (40:17-19), the north gate (40:20-23), the south gate (40:24-27), the inner courtyard of the south gate (40:28-31), the inner courtyard of the east gate (40:32-34), the inner courtyard of the north gate (40:35-37), buildings near the north gate (40:38-46).
More places measured in the vision were: the inner courtyard and the temple building (verses 47-49 till chapter 41:1-4), the rooms built against the temple walls (41:5-11), the building on the west (41:12), the total measurements of the temple building (41:13-15), the details of the temple building (41:16-21), the wooden altar (41:22), the doors (41:23-26), two buildings near the temple (42:1-14), the measurements of the temple area (42:15-20).
Getting to chapter 43, Ezekiel was opportune to experience the presence of the glory of God in the form of a dazzling Light. He knew it was God revealing Himself to him because of its consistency with the previous visions he had seen, and that Light filled the entire temple. Verses 1-4
Ezekiel was made to understand that in this new temple, no strange gods are allowed. No worship of them is permitted and all the details must be well explained to the people and they must study them for proper understanding. Verses 5-12
The man then gave him the measurement of the altar using the same unit of measurement used for measuring the temple. Verses 13-17.
Verses 18-27 provides us with the rules about how the altar must be consecrated.
The remaining chapters contain the various rules guiding the new temple, how people are to be admitted into the temple, how offerings are to be offered, the boundaries of the land, and the division of the land among the various tribes of Israel.
Before I round it off, something remarkable caught my attention in all these chapters.
Did you know that the vision of this new temple is a symbolic representation of every believer?
We were once ruined by sin, but Christ came to our rescue and offered us another chance. He rebuilt us and gave us a new nature – the nature of God. That dazzling Light that Ezekiel saw was the Holy Spirit that fills every believer who has been rebuilt through the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ.
The Bible says in 1Cor 3:16
Surely you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you!
Good News Translation
Also, in 1Cor 6:19-20
Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God;
20 He bought you for a price. So, use your bodies for God’s glory.
Good News Translation
That’s why God instructed Ezekiel to tell the people of Israel that nothing immoral must be allowed to get in contact with this new temple, not even the worship of idols. And also worthy of note is chapter 47 which represents the spiritual growth of every believer – everyone always begins as a baby in Christ and that’s what wading through the stream at an ankle level represents.
As we continue to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit through God’s Word, we move from an ankle level to the knee level and from there to the waist level until we start to swim in an oceanic flow of the Holy Spirit. (47:3-5).
When you are in Christ Jesus, you have become God’s temple and the Holy Spirit lives in you like a dazzling Light. Every trace of darkness disappears. You are a completely new being. Hallelujah!
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
