Is It True That Jesus Was Created To Save Mankind? Here Is The Answer
Greetings to you all greatly beloved of God in Christ Jesus. Welcome to another beautiful day in the third month of the year 2021. We are thankful to God for preserving our lives each new day and for blessing us with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus.
In our today’s episode 640 of reading and studying the Bible, we shall be looking into Matthew Chapter 1 where I will be answering some pertinent questions about who God is, why Jesus had to come into the scene and why we must believe in Him to be saved. I included some addendum as well so, I will advise you grab a cup of coffee, sit comfortably and enjoy the long read.
In my previous blog post, we started with the intro to the book of Matthew from which we talked about how Matthew was a tax collector who was working for the Roman Empire, the empire that crushed the Persian empire as prophesied by Prophet Daniel.
His office was in Capernaum, on the highway, which was where Jesus, during His Gospel campaign, met him and asked him to join His Gospel movement, an invitation he consented to and the rest was history.
Reading the book of Matthew, you will discover that it was purposely directed to the Jewish audience and because he was able to adequately help readers transition easily from the Old Testament to the New Testament through a well-documented genealogy and some facts showing the fulfilment of Old Testament prophecies, his book was named first in the Canonical arrangement of the New Testament books despite Mark being the first to be written (as agreed by many Bible scholars).
So, Let’s begin with Chapter 1
In verses 1-17, we can see a well-documented genealogy of Jesus. This was not written to show off family names or for fun, or to show how popular or unpopular family names were in those periods. Rather, the genealogy was documented to helps us understand that Christ was real and that He came in human form (the incarnate God) and that He had a lineage He could be traced to.
This happened for a purpose and I am going to shed more light using it to answer some pertinent questions that one of my readers on social media platform posted in the comment section of a post I made and the question reads thus:
“…when God created people with their differences, the scenario that God later created a man that will save everybody from sin if they worship him and accept him as their saviour, is causing a lot of confusions and challenges, is God one or many?”
If you look at the above question very well, it’s obvious the person believes God exists and that He created mankind but where the confusion lies is how Jesus was introduced into the scene, which makes it look like we have multiple God and why we have to accept Jesus Christ to be saved.
The above question is a very crucial one as it will afford me the opportunity to provide an answer not only to the person who asked the question but also to others out there who have at one time in the past asked similar question and hoped or still hoping to get concrete answers from the Scriptures.
I will start by making some clarifications as follows:
First, that God did not create Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, there is no where in the Bible where it was said Jesus was created to save mankind.
Rather, the Bible clearly states that He was the Creator Himself, because through Him, all things were created according to John 1:1-11.
John says He is the Word of God (John 1).
Hence, the reason I said in one of my posts on social media that the Bible as a book, is not the Word of God.
The reason is because, ordinary men spoke in the Bible, the devil himself spoke and various evil words and actions were recorded in the Bible and the fact that they were all recorded in the Bible does not make the book called the Bible the Word of God.
God is not and cannot be responsible for everything that happened or written in the Bible.
Simply put, the Bible is a collection of books, just like a library containing books of various subjects and themes. In it, you will find poems, songs, prayers, politics, businesses, geographical locations, good and bad things etc. Different subjects of study were all recorded in the Bible for readers to study.
Despite that, when you painstakingly and carefully study the Bible, you will encounter the Word of God from it – He is a person just as John has clearly explained in John 1. This is what makes the Scripture sacred.
Anointed or inspired people put the original writings together before they were translated.
You will be shocked to realize that the Bible was not originally divided into chapters and verses neither was it written originally in English language. The original language of the Old Testament books was Hebrew, while the New Testament books were written in Greek and Aramaic. This is why it is better to study the Bible with the original texts to understand the context.
Ok, why is it that it was said in 2Tim 3:16-17 that all Scripture is given by the inspiration of God?
That verse was being quoted out of context to mean that God gave every single word documented in the Bible, which is not correct. The true interpretation of that verse is that God inspired the writers to document everything that happened in Bible times. The reason they needed to be inspired is because, ordinary human being cannot recollect everything that happened more than 4000 years ago and so, for those events to be documented, the writers needed supernatural ability to do so, which can only come through the inspiration of the Spirit of God.
In the Bible, you will find some set of instructions,
You will find words that will correct you when you are wrong.
You will find words that will give you strength and wisdom to take the right direction.
In it, you will find spiritual insight that will lead you deeper into the path of godliness.
By the time you put all of these together and apply them in the right way, you will be God’s anointed, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.
On the other hand, in the same Bible, you will find some bad things like people killing one another, taking one another as slaves, destroying human beings created by God and territories built by men.
You will find people who claimed to serve God taking another man’s wife and killing the husband so he could take total ownership of the wife.
You will find where the devil spoke in rebellion against God and also seduced men to do likewise.
Regarding these bad events found in the Bible volumes, you must be careful not to practice such, otherwise, the consequences will be catastrophic.
You may be wondering why bad events were documented in the Bible?
They were included for our learning. They were not meant to be used as church doctrines but for us to read and learn so we don’t fall into the same mistake they fell into.
Apostle Paul clearly explains this in one of his letters to the Romans Chapter 15 and verse 4 KJV
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
The word “aforetime” as used by Paul means in the old testament era. It means those writings of the Old Testament books were to be read for the purpose of learning.
At the end of the day, you will discover that the Bible is like local grains that have not been de-stoned which must be sieved and de-stoned – pick those ones that are consumable and you will be spiritually nourished for growth and development.
How can we know what can be consumed and what cannot be consumed from the Bible?
Well, the Holy Spirit is there to inform us which He has done using the Epistles to explain the Old Testament writings. Read John 14:26
The Holy Spirit continues to teach us all things on daily basis about God and His Kingdom.
If you study the Epistles very well, you will discover that everything that happened in the Old Testament books were clearly explained already. All you need do is study them with an open mind – a mind ready to learn.
At the same time, as we study the Epistles, we must also pay attention to how the Apostles practised church doctrine and use it as a basis for our own church practices. It is dangerous to create your own tradition, style or way of life and superimpose them into the Bible thereby making it say what God did not say – this is dangerous.
So, let’s ask ourselves again, is the Bible as a collection of writings the Word of God? The answer is NO.
Then, where can we find the Word of God?
The simple answer is: IN CHRIST, because He is the Word Himself! Again, read John 1:1-11
John also talks about Him when he had a revelation at the Island of Patmos. Let’s read:
Revelation 19:11-13 (The Passion Translation)
Then I saw heaven opened, and suddenly a white horse appeared. The name of the one riding it was Faithful and True, and with pure righteousness he judges and rides to battle. [12] He wore many regal crowns, and his eyes were flashing like flames of fire. He had a secret name inscribed on him that’s known only to himself. [13] He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title is called the Word of God.
From Greek: λόγος
Transliterated to – logos
Pronounced as – log’-os
What does it mean?
According to Strong’s concordance, it was a Greek philosopher called Heraclitus who first used the term Logos which happened around 600 B.C.
The word logos was taken from a root word called lego.
In Biblical context, it means a complete thought of God expressed in human form that is Christ.
Thayer’s Definition for logos means a word uttered by a living voice, embodies a conception or idea. As used in the Gospel of John, logos indicates the essential Word of God, Jesus Christ, the personal wisdom and power in union with God, His minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world’s life both physical and ethical, which for the procurement of man’s salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds.
In other words, you study the Bible to encounter the Word of God. Anything contrary to that, please trash it, because it’s irrelevant.
When you genuinely preach the Word of God, ethnic barrier is broken in the process (Acts 11:1). The Word of God is universal and transcends territories, ethnics, traditions, geographical locations even generations and the Word endures forever.
When you receive and believe the Word, He becomes an energizing force within you. Read 1Thess 2:13.
So, Jesus Christ embodies that total message, and that is why He is called the “Logos,” or “Word,” of God. Please read Colossians 1:19; 2:9.
He is the Message!
When the Word of God hits you, He does not hit you to harm you. He pierces you even to the bones and marrow to correct, reform, transform, renew, you and give you a completely new nature – the nature of God.
The Bible says in Hebrews 4:12-13 (The Passion Translation)
For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. [13] There is not one person who can hide their thoughts from God, for nothing that we do remains a secret, and nothing created is concealed, but everything is exposed and defenseless before his eyes, to whom we must render an account.
Therefore, you study the Scripture in order to encounter the Word of God that gives eternal life. The Pharisees tried it but did it the wrong way and Jesus set the record straight for them. John 5:39.
Let me quickly show you another Greek word used to describe the Word of God.
Cited from Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
From the original Greek text (Strong’s concordance), the word “word” is written as – ῥῆμα
Transliterated as – rhēma
And pronounced as /hray’-mah/
And it means an utterance or what has been uttered by the living voice, thing spoken, word. (Thayer’s Definition)
The word rhēma (Noun) was taken from its root verb called – ῥέω
Transliterated as – rheō
And pronounced as – /hreh’-o/
Which still means to pour forth, or to utter,
according to Thayer’s Definition.
During the temptation of Jesus by satan, remember Jesus said, “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
The word “word” in the above verse is called – rhēma, in the transliterated Greek.
Now, here is the golden question: was Jesus Christ Created; are there many Gods?
No, He was not created and there are not many Gods. There is only one God. It was religion that makes you think there are many Gods. That’s why Jesus and religious leaders were never in agreement. They hated Him and His teachings.
Apostle Paul wrote in one of his letters about this subject matter and if you look at what he wrote, you will observe he was quoting Moses in Deut. 4:6
Let’s read an excerpt from Paul’s letter:
1 Corinthians 8:4-6 (The Passion Translation)
Concerning food sacrificed as offerings to idols, we all know that an idol is nothing, for there is no God but one. [5] Although there may be many so-called gods in this world, and in heaven there may be many “gods,” “lords,” and “masters,” [6] yet for us there is only one God-the Father. He is the source of all things, and our lives are lived for Him. And there is one Lord, Jesus, the Anointed One, through whom we and all things exist.
Also read Gal 3:20 and Ephesians 4:6 for more corroboration.
If there is only one God, how come Jesus came into scene?
The Truth is that Jesus Christ has been existing even before the existence of the world and through Him all things existed and are still existing. Read John 1:1-11 Remember He is both the written and spoken Word of God as well as God in human form. I have explained this already.
The Bible says God is Spirit and so, nobody can see Him. No one has ever seen God. Whoever tells you he has seen God before lies. Read John 1:18 for proof.
When God wanted to reveal Himself to mankind in physical form, he first created the heavens and the earth and put man on earth to live there and manage it. Genesis 1:26-28
Psalm 19:1 KJVS says, The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handwork. The creation of heaven and earth was a way of God revealing His glory to mankind.
So, when you look at the whole universe, the galaxies, the entire planetary bodies, you will know for sure that there is a supernatural Being who put all of these together in a miraculous manner.
Unfortunately, what we see today are men worshipping what God created instead of the Creator Himself.
That is why you will hear people say words like: thanks to the universe or thanks to nature etc.
They were simply trying to deny the existence of God. Why are they finding it difficult to thank and worship the Creator of heaven and earth?
Well, probably they are having some personal issues with God, who knows?
So, let’s continue with the answer I was providing to the previous question about why Jesus came into the scene if there is only one God.
When man disobeyed God by listening to Satan who disguised as a serpent, man was supposed to die as a consequence (Gen 2:17), but God came to man’s rescue and took up the responsibility of salvaging the situation.
Note that a soul that sins must die but God did not want man to die and so He took up our death and died on our behalf.
How did He do this since He is a Spirit and Spirits don’t die?
That’s exactly why He transformed Himself into man called Christ Jesus. He planted His seed into Mary so He could be born and He was called the Son of God. John 1:14.
In other words, we can say authoritatively that Jesus Christ is God in human form.
By becoming man, He has fulfilled the requirement to live on earth legally. Because only human beings are allowed to legally live on earth according to Gen 1:26-28
Since God made the statement in Genesis, He has not broken His word. He will never break His word. That’s why He is God.
For Him not to break His word and at the same time wanting to solve the problem of man’s sin was the reason He became man and dwelled among us as Jesus Christ.
Here are some proofs from the Bible.
John 8:24 (The Passion Translation)
That’s why I’ve told you that you will all die in your sins if you fail to believe that I AM who I AM.”
The above verse shows that Jesus called Himself I am that I am, which is the same as the name God called Himself in Exodus 3:14 KJVS
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
More proofs…
Matthew 1:23
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
The next proof was so hilarious when the Jews heard it, they tried to stone Jesus for calling Himself God. Poor them, they could not see beyond their noses.
John 10:30-33
I and the Father are one.” The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
And many more…
Proofs From The Quran that Jesus is God in human form.
You will be shocked to also find this truth in the Quran that Jesus Christ is the Spirit of God and also the Word of God Read Quran chapter 3:45-55. In fact, if you read both chapter 2 and 3 of the Quran, you will discover that Quran agrees with what John already said in John 1:1-11.
What qualifies you as a human being is the spirit in you. If the spirit is gone out of a person, that person ceases to exist.
Quran Chapter 3:45 says
And remember when the angels said to Mary, “O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary – distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah].
From the above, the Quran calls Jesus word from God and in Quran 4:171, it was recorded that Jesus is the Spirit of God.
However, the bone of contention between both Quran and the Bible is that the Muslims asserted that the Spirit mentioned in 4:171 was created and so not God. Which is contrary in some way to the Bible’s position.
Well, that’s as a result of human interpretations.
Nevertheless, both books agreed that Jesus is both the Word and the Spirit of God.
Quran even spoke about Jesus’ death and resurrection in Chapter 3 verse 55
Allah said, “O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.
Although there are still some debates going on about the above verse.
Ultimately, the Quran instructs Muslims and everyone to believe in Jesus and the Gospel (Injil) according to chapter 3 verses 55 to 57.
If both the Bible and the Quran agrees that Jesus Christ is the Spirit and the Word of God, then we can safely say that Jesus is God in human form. Since God cannot be seen physically in His Spirit form, that’s why He came as man to solve the problem of man’s sin.
And there is a very good reason He had to come in human form, because He will never break His word already declared in Genesis 1:26-28 that only mankind have the right to dominate the earth.
This means to exist on this earth realm as a human being, you must live inside the body, but originally speaking, you are a spirit being that has a soul. Your body was only given to you by God to enable you live conveniently on earth.
When your time is up, you will return the body to the dust where it came from and your spirit goes back to God in the spiritual realm. If you read your Bible very well, you will find all these. Adam and Eve were typical examples of this fact.
No wonder when evil spirits want to operate on earth, they borrow human body to perpetrate their schemes knowing that they have no right to operate on earth in their spirit form.
In the same way if the Holy Spirit want to carry out any assignment on earth, He uses men too.
So, through the process of God becoming man in the form of Jesus Christ, Christ became a prototype of how every human being was reborn and registered as children of God.
That’s why when Christ was on earth, He would always refer to God as a Father. He was teaching us how to address God as our own Father too. This means that the same way He in human form was directly communicating with the Father, He was laying a foundation for us to follow.
Although sin separated us from God, Christ came, removed the sin out of the way and bridged the gap. This was why when He died on the cross, the curtain of the tabernacle was torn into two thereby revealing the Holy of Holies (a location in the temple believed to be God’s dwelling) that only the high priest could access then.
The moment the curtain was torn into two, every child of God can from that moment on pray directly to God and get answers from Him. It’s a Father-Son relationship.
That is why we are a type of Christ on earth except that we did not die for our sin. He did that on our behalf.
Apostle Paul also corroborates that point in Col. 1:15-17 (Good News Translation)
Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first-born Son, superior to all created things. 16 For through him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through him and for him. 17 Christ existed before all things, and in union with him all things have their proper place.
Let me quickly add this, if we look at the conception of Jesus very well, we will discover that it’s completely different from the way other humans were born.
As a matter of fact, His incarnation has been prophesied right from the book of Genesis when God was pronouncing judgement upon the serpent that deceived Eve.
Genesis 3:15 KJVS
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
What does the above verse mean?
Because Satan disguised as a serpent and deceived the woman and the man to rebel against God and disobey Him, as part of their punishment (consequences of their actions), mutual hatred began to exist between the woman and the serpent.
Thereafter, the same hatred or enmity continued between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent.
Who is this Seed?
Remember, God continued to remind every generation of this promised Seed. God told Abraham, Isaac and even Jacob about Him.
Apostle Paul provided a very clear answer in Galatians 3:16 KJVS
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
This means that since he was not referring to a plural seeds but singular Seed. It means God was referring to the manifestation of Christ in human form. That’s exactly what Paul said in the above verse.
How was it possible for us to inherit the nature of sin from Adam and Eve?
Because the Bible says Eve was the mother of all human beings. Read Genesis 3:20
So, every human being inherited the nature of sin through the first Adam and God through the second Adam transformed everyone who believes into a righteous person.
Using this method, God, through Christ ended the sinful nature of the first Adam and then began a new species of human race whose sins have been blotted through His blood. Read 1Cor 15:45.
So, through His life-giving Spirit, we became a brand new person entirely.
Did God create every human being differently?
The answer is yes. Our God is a God of varieties.
He created us individually and uniquely. Nobody is a photocopy. Every human being is original. That is why every human being has different thumb prints, different patterns of lines on individuals palms, unique personalities etc. All these put together is what makes you to be you and we must all glorify God in our uniqueness.
Let’s see what the Psalmist has to say about this:
Psalm 139:13-16 (The Passion Translation)
You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb.
[14] I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord!
[15] You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place, carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something.
[16] You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book.
Now, here is another question: did God create every human being with weaknesses?
The answer is Capital NO.
What God gave man was will power to make choices. The same way He gave Adam and Eve power of choice, this same power has been given to every human being on earth as well.
What you do with your will power is your responsibility but unfortunately, human beings do not want to take responsibility for their actions. They say it is my weakness and they like to blame a lot of factors just like Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the Serpent.
What they did not realize was that both of them had the will power to reject the offer. I mean Eve could have simply called Adam to tell him about the Serpent’s offer. Even if Eve failed in that regard, Adam, who received the instructions directly from God should have reported the issue to God and ask for a way out on what to do next.
In short, they both made the choice to be independent. Anytime any human being begins to think He no longer needs God in His daily endeavours, that man has just embarked on a journey of self-inflicted destruction.
So, let’s stop calling the choices we make our weaknesses.
Someone who slept with another man’s wife or someone who commits murder will start saying: I can’t help it, it’s my weakness… “
Stop it! It’s not your weakness. Let’s call it what it is.
You simply made a choice.
You could have as well chosen the opposite.
Whenever we choose an option, we probably think there is a reward attached to it without knowing that not all rewards are good rewards. Majority of rewards attached to the choices we make on daily basis usually lead to regret and damnation eventually.
Adam knew what his wife did was wrong by “eating the fruit, ” but still went ahead, collected the “fruit” ate it and disobeyed his Creator.
They both did not chose that option because they were weak. Rather, they made that choice because they wanted to feel independent. It’s another way of saying “I don’t need God anymore.” They believed the serpent as opposed to what God originally told them.
Despite their wrong choice, God still saved them and prevented them from dying as stipulated initially. In other words, God forgave them. That’s why God killed an animal and use its skin to cover their nakedness.
If God did not love them, He would have allowed them to perish and face eternal damnation.
This does not mean they were not punished. They were served appropriate punishment otherwise known as consequences of their actions.
There is a difference between when you are forgiven and when you face consequences of your actions.
For example, if you are promiscuous or seeing another person other than your spouse and you start having different kinds of sicknesses, you have just received the consequence of your action. Was it God that put that sickness there?
Definitely No. You simply altered an order of event, you broke a principle, and you reaped the result. That’s exactly what happened to Adam and Eve.
What God did was to heal and restore them.
Why do we have to believe in Jesus Christ to be saved from sin?
Let me put it in a simple way…
To prevent us from perishing in our sinful nature that we inherited from Adam and Eve.
That’s why Jesus said in John 8:24 KJVS
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
Faith in Christ Jesus (God in human form) is very powerful as it brings forgiveness and Salvation according to Jesus Himself in Luke 7:48-50; also Apostle Paul in Rom. 3:22
The burden of our sins have been laid on Christ. Simply receive the forgiveness offered by Him through faith. You don’t have to add anything to the blood of Jesus Christ. His blood is enough for the atonement of man’s sins.
I think I need to stop here for now and if you have any question relating to this or any other areas of the Bible, kindly drop them in the comment section or contact us through our website contact form for a private chat.
To be continued… stay tuned and stay blessed.
Let’s pray:
I declare as an Oracle of God that as many people as possible that have believed the message of Christ or that will believe after reading this post, may God open your mind the more to the knowledge of God and may your life continue to experience peace and unlimited blessings in every area of your life, in Jesus name.
I pray for every human being all over the world, may we all be joined together as one even as Christ and God are joined together as one. I declare love, peace and perfect unity upon nations of the world. Let the Kingdom of God be established in the heart of everyone, in Jesus name.
I call you blessed now and always.
