STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 478
The Book of Jeremiah – Introduction.
Book Author: Chapter 1:1-3 presents Jeremiah as the author of the book. He was the son of a Priest called Hilkiah.
Writing Date: Prophet Jeremiah lived between the latter part of the seventh century and the first part of the sixth century BC – Approximately between 630 and 580 B.C.
Purpose: The Book of Jeremiah records the final prophecies to Judah, warning of oncoming destruction if the nation does not repent. Jeremiah advises the people to repent and turn back to God, because failure to do that would result in their destruction, due to their high level of unrepentant idolatry and immorality mongers.
The following kings reigned during Jeremiah’s ministry work: Josiah (640 – 609), Joahaz (just 3 months), Jehoiakim (609 – 598), Jehoiachin (just 3 months) and Zedekiah (598 – 587).
What you will find predominantly emphasized in this book is JUDGEMENT against idolatry.
After the death of King Josiah, a king that happened to love God so much, the nation of Judah completely abandoned God and His instructions.
This is why Jeremiah compares Judah to a prostitute. What a shameful thing.
We may not spend too much time on this book because majority of what we will find here has been discussed in the book of Isaiah.
Nevertheless, we will try as much as possible to rightly divide the salient points from Jeremiah’s collection of writings using the lenses of the New Covenant reality.
Tomorrow, by God’s grace, we will begin with how Jeremiah’s prophetic journey all started. We will title it: The Call of Jeremiah.
Are you ready for this? Please, stay tuned to this post.
To be continued…Praise God.
Prayers: By the authority in the name of Jesus:
👉I declare concerning some people here, the call of God upon your life will be fulfilled to God’s satisfaction, in Jesus name.
