Greetings to you all greatly beloved of God in Christ Jesus. Welcome to another wonderful day. We are thankful to God for preserving our lives each new day and for blessing us with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus.
In our today’s episode 634, we shall be examining the book of Malachi Chapter 3 titled:
I Am Sending My Messenger To Refine, Purify And Declare My Judgement
Looking at verse 1 very well, we will find out that Malachi was referring to two messengers.
The first was to prepare the way for the second.
The first messenger mentioned was no other person than John The Baptist, who came as the forerunner of Christ, while the second messenger was Christ Himself and the prophecy was already fulfilled in the new testament according to Matthew 11:9-10.
9 Or did you encounter a true prophet out in the lonely wilderness? Yes, John was a prophet like those of the past, but he is even more than that! 10 He was the fulfilment of this Scripture:
See, I am sending my prophetic messenger who will go ahead of me and prepare hearts to receive me.
(The Passion Translation)
Also read Mark 1:2, and Luke 7:27 for more emphasis.
Then, Malachi says concerning the second messenger in verses 2 to 4 that:
2 But who will be able to endure the day when he comes? Who will be able to survive when he appears? He will be like strong soap, like a fire that refines metal. 3 He will come to judge like one who refines and purifies silver. As a metalworker refines silver and gold, so the Lord’s messenger will purify the priests, so that they will bring to the Lord the right kind of offerings. 4 Then the offerings which the people of Judah and Jerusalem bring to the Lord will be pleasing to him, as they used to be in the past. Malachi 3:2-4 (Good News Translation).
Pay attention to the type of judgement the Messiah will bring – it’s going to be a purifying one and Malachi uses some figurative words to drive home his points:
Like a strong soap.
Like a fire that refines metal.
Like a silver smith who refines and purifies silver.
Like a metal worker who refines silver and gold
What do all these figurative expressions mean? We will find out in our next episode.
To be continued… stay blessed.
Let’s pray:
