STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 453
Isaiah Chapter 55
This chapter is about a prophetic invitation from Isaiah to his audience, including our dispensation to come and receive Living Water that gives Abundant Life.
Isaiah 55:1-5 TPT
“Listen! Are you thirsty for more? Come to the refreshing waters and drink. Even if you have no money, come, buy, and eat. Yes, come and buy all the wine and milk you desire – it won’t cost a thing.
Note: In the above verse, Prophet Isaiah prophetically invites as many as possible to come and receive the life-giving water from the Messiah.
For us to know that it was Christ he was making reference to, we will see Jesus Himself quoted Isaiah in John 4:13-14 in order to establish the fact that the prophecy was actually about Him.
Let’s read…
[13]Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
[14]But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
What does this water truly mean according to the Scriptures?
Let’s see how Jesus Himself interprets it…
John 7:37-39
[37]In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
[38]He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
[39](But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
What’s so significant about this Living Water?
We will find our answer here in John 3:5-6
[5]Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
[6]That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
It means that it is that Living Water, which is the Holy Spirit that helps people get born again.
How does this happen?
It’s very simple. The Holy Spirit helps the Word of God to have meaning in our lives until it has performed the required change needed.
Jesus places high premium on the Word of God and even calls it the bread of Life.
So, Isaiah was not referring to bottled or sachet water at all.
Now, let’s continue with Isaiah 55:2
[2] Why spend your hard-earned money on something that can’t nourish you or work so hard for something that can’t satisfy? So listen carefully to me and you’ll enjoy a sumptuous feast, delighting in the finest of food.
Only the Word of God can give everlasting nourishment as given by the Spirit of God.
Therefore, we must pay rapt attention to God’s Word at all times and allow the Word transform us into who God wants us to be.
That’s why Isaiah says…
[3] Pay attention and come closer to me, and hear, that your total being may flourish. I will enter into an everlasting covenant with you, and I will show you the same faithful love that I showed David.
[4] See! I made him a witness to the nations, an example of leadership, as prince and commander of peoples.”
[5] Look! You will summon nations you’ve never heard of. Nations who have never heard of you will come running to follow you because Yahweh, your God, the Holy One of Israel, has glorified you!
To be continued…Praise God.
