STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 440
Isaiah Chapter 50
When we face problems, many of us usually say it’s from God, that God is using it to discipline us for our actions. This is actually a wrong notion because God does not tempt people with evil.
Problems can only be caused either by ourselves through the wrong choices we make or by affliction from the devil.
What we need to do when we face problems is to look within ourselves to figure out what wrong choices have we made that led to that problem…
Some people are fond of saying God has forsaken them.
Some would say it was punishment from God.
The answer is, God is not behind evils befalling men on earth.
In this chapter, Prophet Isaiah seems to be on the Lord’s side this time, to say correctly what he saw about God’s true nature, His relationship with man and the real cause of man’s problems. Let’s read…
Isaiah 50:1
[1]Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother’s divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
We all remember the story behind the above statement, when the Israelites were taken captive to Babylon and they were accusing God that He had divorced them…meaning He abandoned them and sent them to exile.
But God corrected their thinking that He was not the one behind their predicaments. If He was the One, they should show the proof. That’s the meaning of the statement: “where is the letter of divorce?”
He went further to open their eyes to see the source of their problems. He said:
“…Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.”
Prophet Isaiah repeated similar statement here…
Isaiah 59:1-2
[1]Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
[2]But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
That’s exactly what Apostle James was explaining in James 1:13-17
[13]Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
[14]But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
[15]Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
[16]Do not err, my beloved brethren.
[17]Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In fact, God even did something very remarkable. In their disobedience and rebellion against God, He looked for them to save them. Unfortunately, no one responded.
We see that in verse 2 of our study Chapter.
Isaiah 50:2 TPT
When I came to you, why was no one there? When I called, why did no one answer? Am I powerless to rescue you or too weak to deliver you? With only a threat I can evaporate the sea and dry up the rivers as a desert, leaving the fish to rot and die of thirst.
I want us to paint a picture of a Father and his son in the house. Father wants his son not to touch candle fire that as beautiful as it looks, it burns and causes bodily harm.
Unfortunately, son disobeys, touches the candle light and got his finger burnt. He then blames his Father to be behind his burnt finger.
Father tries to help him heal the wound, he throws tantrum at his Father and refuses.
That’s exactly what happened between God and the Israelites.
The same thing is happening today.
At Salvation, God comes to man to save man (from what they brought upon themselves through disobedience), but man rejects God’s offer of Salvation. Only those who respond by faith gets saved.
God says, even if it is your fault that you are in the situation you found yourself, I want to rescue you. Simply give Me the chance. God wants to bring good out of that bad situation. He is an expert at that.
Will you give Him that chance today? The ball is in your court. Stop throwing tantrum. Give it up for God to step in now.
To be continued…Praise God.
