STUDYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE – PART 443
Isaiah Chapter 51
In this chapter, we see Prophet Isaiah talking to the Jews and the Gentiles. He first addresses the Jews admonishing them to listen and pay attention to how God has been faithful to their fore father – the Patriarch of faith.
We all know that the Jews had one major challenge – they were allergic to listening to God and paying attention to His instructions.
So, Isaiah decides to create an audience with them and exhorts them to listen to what God is saying and that they should put their total trust in Him.
That if God could be faithful to Abraham and Sarah, He would also be faithful to you since He does not change. He remains a faithful God forever.
Thereafter, Isaiah didn’t forget to mention the great blessings that are accrued to those who trust in God.
Isaiah 51:3 TPT
Indeed, Yahweh will comfort Zion, restore her, and comfort all her broken places. He will transform her wilderness into the garden of Bliss, her desert into the garden of Yahweh. Joy and laughter will fill the air with thanksgiving and joyous melodies.
Then, Prophet Isaiah turned to the Gentiles (he calls them nations or islands), advising them to also ensure they share in this Salvation package.
Thereafter, Isaiah made his audience understand that in trusting God and serving Him, they will be insulted and persecuted by evil people, but then he gave them some words of advice…
Isaiah 51:7-8 TPT
So listen to me, you who care for what is right, who treasure my teaching in your hearts: Do not fear the insults of others; do not be troubled when they revile you.
[8] They are nothing for you to fear, for the moth will eat them up like a shirt and the worm will consume them like wool, but my righteousness will last forever and my salvation from generation to generation.”
The moment you profess Christ Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, you instantly become and enemy to the devil and his cohorts.
But you have nothing to fear or worry about because God is the one defending you and acting on your behalf.
That’s why Isaiah says:
Isaiah 51:8 TPT
They are nothing for you to fear, for the moth will eat them up like a shirt and the worm will consume them like wool, but my righteousness will last forever and my salvation from generation to generation.”
He was simply talking about the judgement of God that will come upon them.
To be continued…Praise God.
