The book of Ezekiel was written around 593 and 568 BC. According to the vision recorded in Chapter 1, it was during the time King Jehoiachin was taken captive to Babylon and Ezekiel was among those captives. Precisely, King Jehoiachin spent just 3 months on the throne in Jerusalem in the year 598 BC.
Adding 5 years to 598 BC according to verse 1, we will have 593 BC. So, he saw the vision right there in captivity. Since his visions were not received in a single year, so definitely the documentation cannot be in a single year. Hence, majority of Bible Scholars agreed the writing spanned through from 598 to 568 BC and of course Ezekiel was the Author.
The same way Jeremiah was weeping and praying for his people to be saved is the same way Jesus Christ was sorrowful and praying concerning His mission to save humanity.
The Bible says He was sorrowful and praying to the point that the drops of His sweat were like blood. Please read Luke 22:44

Meanwhile, before this assassination, Gedaliah was previously warned about the evil plot, but he waved it as not important or not true. He believed he had known Ishmael for a long time in the palace not knowing that when power intoxicates, even relatives can betray each other. Unfortunately for Gedaliah, he did not see this red light. He did not even bother to pray about it by seeking the help of Prophet Jeremiah who has been handed over to him to take care of.
