Greetings to you all greatly beloved of God in Christ Jesus. Welcome to another wonderful day. We are thankful to God for preserving our lives each new day and for blessing us with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. Happy Sunday to you all.
In our today’s episode 630, we shall be examining the remaining chapters in the book of Zechariah Chapters 9 – 14 titled:
A Sneak Peek Into The Vision Of The Messianic Kingdom
Here is the final section of the book of Zechariah, which appears to be different from what we have in chapters 1 to 8.
Chapter 9:1-8: This oracle features a series of judgments announced against the nations surrounding Israel (verses 1-7), with deliverance promised for His people (verse 8). Most understand this to be a prophecy of the famous Greek conqueror, Alexander the Great’s victories, given approximately 200 years before he marched through Palestine.
The remaining parts of chapters 9 to 11 describe the coming of the humble messianic King who was seen riding a donkey into the new Jerusalem to establish God’s kingdom over the nations, but then, all of a sudden, this King, he is symbolized as a shepherd over the flock of Israel, and then he´s rejected first by His own people, but then also by their leaders who are also symbolized as shepherds and so God hands Israel over to these corrupt shepherds.
Zechariah 9:9 figuratively describes the first coming of Jesus, which was also quoted by the writer of the Gospel of Matthew, which clearly prophesies what is known as the triumphal entry of Jesus (please read Matthew 21:5), during the time He presented Himself as the Messiah to Jerusalem and the people of Israel.
However, Zechariah 9:10 on the other hand, is associated with His Second Coming, when He will come in power and glory to reign over the earth. In that day God’s righteousness will be fully established; there would be no more wars. Prophet Isaiah also talks about this in his book too (Isaiah 2:4).
When Jesus rules over this earth, His reign will be universal. The entire earth will be under His authority. Many Bible scholar refer to this reign as the millennium reign, the thousand-year reign of Jesus on this earth. Consider reading the following references: Psalm 72, Isaiah 2:2-4, Isaiah 11:4-9, Jeremiah 23:5-6, Luke 1:32-33 and 19:12-27, Matthew 5:18.
Here is the curious question: will Israel’s rejection of their King last forever?
Let’s quickly examine the final section of the book of Zechariah, chapters 12 to 14, where we will get our answer. The answer is no, their rejection will not last forever.
The way God plans to intervene as prophesied by Zechariah is akin to what prophets Joel and Ezekiel said in their prophecies. God plans to confront the rebellion within the hearts of these people, by pouring His Spirit on them. This will enable them to grieve in their heart because of their rebellion and rejection of the prophesied Messiah and this would produce repentance.
The final chapter concludes with the new Jerusalem. That´s the gathering point for all of the nations and then this city becomes a new garden of Eden, which will reset us to God’s original plan with Adam and Eve before their fall, when man was in smooth relationship with God (Father) and there´s a river of living water flowing out of the temple bringing healing to all of creation and that’s how the book ends.
Reading the book of Zechariah requires a great task of proper study because the visions and poems presented in that book are full of startling imagery and they appeared not to follow a linear flow of thought and that’s where it requires you to read with the lens of the New Covenant in order to completely comprehend the main point and purpose of putting the book together.
Zechariah implores us to look above the chaos and unpleasant situations happening in the world today and hope for full establishment of God’s kingdom in the heart of the people, which should motivate our decision to be faithful to God in our present life as we join forces together in expressing God’s Kingdom on earth.
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
