Isaiah Chapter 41…
Isaiah 41:1
[1]Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.
Remember Isaiah said in Chapter 40 that those who wait on God with get their strength renewed…right?
He was actually referring to the people of Israel at that time based on the context given in Chapter 40:27
Then, while still maintaining that statement, he extends the same offer to those living in the Islands also known as the distant lands or the coast lands. Figuratively, he was referring to the Gentiles.
Meaning that God decided to offer this renewal of strength to both the people of Israel as well as to the Gentiles.
This implies that God does not discriminate at all.
That is what Apostle Paul was trying to say in Romans 3:29-30
[29]Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
[30]Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
This is why the Gentiles were also invited in Chapter 41 and they were asked to keep silent as they approach God.
To keep silence in Hebrew transliteration is called…”chârash”
Pronounced as: /khaw-rash’/
In this context, it means hold your peace, be quiet, rest, be dumb and listen. Speak not a word, be still and hold your tongue.
After the renewal of strength, they would then have the capacity to dialogue in order to state their case. Why they were doing what they were doing (remember they were Idolatrous nations) and who was right between them and God.
Isaiah 41:1 TPT
“You lands of the sea, stand silent before me! Let the people renew their strength! Let them approach me and state their case. Let’s come together to decide who is right.
Then Isaiah started analysing what God did to establish his point that only God is just in what He does.
Isaiah 41:2 TPT
Who raised up the conqueror from the east? Who commissioned him for his righteous purpose? The Lord hands nations over to him to trample kings under his feet, to make them like dust with his sword and like windblown chaff with his bow.
Who is this conqueror from the east?
Some Bible Scholars believe it’s no other person than Cyrus because of what Isaiah repeated in Chapter 46:11-13.
While some other scholars believe Isaiah was referring to Abraham.
Well, for me, I believe the character of a righteous person mentioned in that verse 2 resonates better with Abraham plus the fact that God called him out of Idolatrous nation from the east. Let’s read Gen 12:1-2.
The Idolatrous nation from which God called Abram was Ur of Chaldees, which is the modern day Iraq (East).
Another reason is the fact that God called Abraham a righteous person through his Faith in God.
Romans 4:3
[3]For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
More so, Abraham conquered many nations and claimed many lands and through him a lot of generations were blessed.
So, Isaiah 42:2 resonates more with Abraham than Cyrus in Isaiah’s period.
Nevertheless, if we are to interpret that verse based on New Covenant reality, we will say the Righteous person who conquers many nations is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ conquered the whole world with Love, through his death and resurrection in order to reunit people back to God.
God made all of these happened which is what Prophet Isaiah was trying to explain by prophecy to the distant lands (the Gentiles), just the same way he explained to the Jews in the previous Chapters.
Isaiah 41:4 TPT
Who achieved all this and made it happen? Who guides the destiny of each generation from the first until now? I am the one! I am Yahweh, the first, the unchanging one who will be there in the end!”
To be continued…
