Good day Beloved of God in Christ Jesus. You are all welcome to another new day. Glory to God for the gift of life.
In our today’s episode 545 of studying and understanding the Bible, we shall be looking into the book of Ezekiel Chapter 5 titled:
This Looks Weird; Ezekiel Instructed To Shave Off His Hairs
Similar to what we examined in chapter 4, Ezekiel continues with his practical acting adventure by demonstrating what was to befall the Jews. He did this by shaving off the hairs on his head and his beard.
Just like me, you must have been wondering how difficult it would be for Ezekiel to shave off his hairs with a sharp sword as instructed. At that time, there was nothing like safety shaving sticks with different brands that we have today. So, what was common then was either a sharp sword or knife, which is what Ezekiel utilized as a razor for the shaving.
He did this a figurative demonstration of the impending evil consequences of the Jewish wickedness against God and humanity. We have dealt with this extensively in our previous posts, especially in the study of the book of Isaiah and Jeremiah.
Let’s briefly look at the interpretations of the symbols used.
Prophet Ezekiel is a typical representation of the people of Israel – the Jewish nation.
The hairs he was instructed to shave off means the rebellious people.
The sharp sword used for the shaving represents Nebuchadnezzar and his army coming for another invasion or siege.
It’s obvious Ezekiel would face some difficulties and pains in the process of using the sword for shaving. This represents the pains, torments, and shame that the rebellious people would face during and after the invasion.
Remember in verses 1 and 2, he was instructed to weigh and divide the hairs into three parts. He was to burn some at the city centre (which represents the drought some would face within the city), chop some with sword and to scatter the remaining to the winds (as the winds would carry off the hair particles and transport them to different locations, same way some of these people would be transported to captivity. The three demonstrations actually show how justice would be distributed among the rebellious people.
In verse 3, he was to keep some few hairs and wrap them in the hem of his clothes. This obviously represents the remnants that would be left in Jerusalem after the invasion.
Lessons To Learn
Every action comes with a consequence. The measure you use for others is what would be used for you. Therefore, love God and be good to humanity. Please, read Luke 6:38
Just like what we learnt from the previous post, a life lived without God leads to spiritual famine and drought and a life that keeps on rejecting the truth of God’s Word, is treading the path of destruction.
The only solution is to receive the gift of Salvation, the gift of Love that God offers unconditionally, in Christ Jesus.
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
Let us pray:
I declare every negative effect of any bad dream targeted against you and your family is hereby rendered null and void, in Jesus name.
Your mind is renewed and empowered with the capacity to filter out negative thoughts. You mind is empowered to allow in creative thoughts. Your mind is empowered to produce the best of you that God has created you to be, in Jesus name.
Someone is reading this message now and you are planning on giving up on your marital life because of some challenges that hit you hard. My advise and prayer for you is that you will not give up. Rather, you will confront the storm, using the authority and wisdom that God has given you in Christ and you will win and testify, in Jesus name.
Every imagination of fear of failure that has been ravaging the life of someone reading this message, I declare you free from them all, in Jesus name.
