HAPPY SUNDAY TO YOU ALL.
In our today’s episode 627, we shall be examining the book of Zechariah Chapter 6 titled:
The Vision Of Four Chariots And The Crowning of Joshua
So far so good, we have been able to explore the followings from the previous chapters 1-5:
The rebuke of the people of Israel for disobeying God. Zechariah also used that opportunity to remind them of how their ancestors disobeyed God in the same way and they faced the consequences.
To prevent them from facing similar consequences, he therefore implored them to have a change of heart and return to God so that they would not face similar fate.
Recall also that we examined some visions that God revealed to Zechariah such as:
The vision of someone riding a red horse and behind him were other horses – red, dappled, and white. We have explained this in our previous studies.
The vision of four Ox horns.
The vision of measuring line.
The vision where he saw Joshua the high priest re-branded.
Read about all the aforementioned visions here
The vision of a golden lampstand with 7 lamps flanked on both sides by two olive trees.
The vision of flying scroll.
And the vision of a woman in a basket. Both visions of a flying scroll and woman in a basket can be found here.
Find below a brief skeletal summary of the whole Zechariah:
Going forward, today we shall be examining the next vision as recorded in Chapter 6, which is the vision of four chariots coming out from between two bronze mountains. You will find this in Zechariah 6:1-8.
The first chariot was pulled by red horses – meant to visit the Chaldeans.
The second chariot was pulled by black horses – meant to visit the Persian empire.
The third by white horses – meant to visit Greece empire.
The fourth by dappled horses – meant to visit Egypt.
After asking for the meaning of the visions in verse 4, he then received an answer in verse 5.
That the four chariots represented four winds sent on an errand to four different geographical locations of the earth, representing four empires which is similar to the vision of the four horns he first saw in chapter 1.
Notice he started his interpretation with the black horse by omitting the red horse, meaning that the empire the red horse was sent to was no longer in existence – It had been crushed.
So, the second chariot pulled by the black horses was going towards the north to Babylonia.
The white horses were going to the west, and
The dappled horses were going to the south.
In short, the four chariots were four angelic beings otherwise known as the Spirits of heaven. They were the divine celestial beings on those chariots sent to execute judgment on earth.
No wonder Hebrews 1:7 says “He makes His angels spirits (winds) and His ministers a flame of fire…”
They remain before God, standing by to do His desires upon the earth.
Having executed all the necessary judgement in those places assigned to them, Zechariah 6:8 says “Then the angel cried out to me, “The horses that went north to Babylonia have quieted the Lord’s anger…”
The above statement means that with the judgement properly served to those who deserved it, God has been vindicated; especially regarding the force from the north being judged at last.
We can compare that parallelly with Revelation Chapters 17 and 18. Until this judgment is done and God’s anger rests, the realm cannot be established (Revelation Chapters 19 and 20), with the Messiah on His throne.
Therefore, there was a switch into another assignment given to Prophet Zechariah.
He was instructed to make an elaborate crown and set it on the head of Joshua, the high priest.
This sounds odd as it is odd to crown a priest as king and vice versa.
As a matter of fact, the king that tried to function as a priest in the bible was stricken with leprosy according to 2 Chronicles 26. This happened because fundamentally speaking, there was a clear dichotomy between the responsibilities of a king (political) and a priest (spiritual) in the land of Israel.
In fact, it would have made more sense humanly speaking if it were to be Zerubbabel (the governor) who was nominated to be crowned the king instead of Joshua the high priest.
However, looking at that statement figuratively, Joshua was mentioned because a coming descendant of David to rule over Israel would be Jesus, and because Jesus Christ is our New Covenant High Priest, Joshua, being a high priest, was therefore used to prefigure Him.
To be continued…stay tuned and stay blessed.
Let’s pray:
I declare that you will breakthrough every barrier this new year. Your glorious expectations and goals will be fully realized by the power of God at work in you.
Barriers are broken before you. The resources and connections you need to actualize your goals this new year will be provided unto you, in Jesus name.
Even in the face of pandemic, no one on this platform will fall victim. You will not lack anything good, in Jesus name.
Remember this: even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Therefore, do not be afraid, but be careful. Jesus said “you must be as cautious as snakes and as gentle as doves.” Please, while serving God in the midst of pandemic, you must apply God’s wisdom in all you do. Please, be cautious!
